Dublin and Galway plan double-header
November 28, 2008
Galway and Dublin officials are set to explore the possibility of staging a National League football and hurling double-header next February.
The two counties are scheduled to meet each other in hurling and football on Sunday, February 15, but the games are nearly 150 miles apart.
Galway are due to host Dublin in the second round of the National Football League at Pearse Stadium in Salthill on that date, while at the same time the two counties will meet in the National Hurling League at Parnell Park.
Galway chairman Gerry Larkin said he would discussing the matter with the Dublin county board with a view to staging a double-header, and thus ensuring fans can see both games.
"There are a few factors which need to be considered, not least whether a pitch in either county could stage a double-header at that time of the year," he said.
"But it would be a great occasion to have such a double-header at Pearse Stadium or Parnell Park so it is certainly worth exploring the option.
"We need to discuss it here ourselves with our hurling and football boards to see what they want. Both counties are busy with conventions, but we should get it sorted out in the coming weeks."
