Corofin set sights on All-Ireland glory
November 24, 2008
Corofin manager Jimmy Sice has challenged his players to repeat the club's 1998 All-Ireland triumph after they captured their fourth Connacht club football title at Eastern Harps' expense.
"We have gone the whole way before and we will be doing our best to repeat that," said Sice, whose side now face an All-Ireland quarter-final date with the London champions.
"It is a long road from the start of a county championship to an All-Ireland final but we have been there before and there is no reason why we shouldn't aim that high again. We took it up another gear today. We're a new generation coming through and after the disappointment of two years ago (when they lost the Connacht final to St. Brigid's), it was important that we won this time.
"The team has progressed all year. They have put in the work and got the reward."
Eastern Harps manager Denis Johnston was making no excuses.
"Corofin were the better team," he conceded. "We felt we had a good chance when we were just three down in the first half, but five points made it very difficult and their point directly after the restart was a big blow."
