Galway chairman praises players

Galway hurling board chairman Miko Ryan has praised the county's players for leaving the process of appointing a new manager to the selection committee.
Ryan said it was refreshing to see the players staying out of the process at a time when the bitter dispute over Gerald McCarthy's reappointment in Cork was still raging. He reserved special praise for young forward Joe Canning for setting the tone.
"I was impressed to see Joe state that players should have no say in it. He said that this year's panel might not be next year's panel. I was highly impressed that a young man who would be in anyone's team would come and state that. It was very satisfying to hear that," Ryan said.
The chairman added that he had every confidence in new manager John McIntyre and his backroom team of John Moylan, Joe Connolly and John Hardiman improving the team.
"I hope the players are happy with the new set-up, they are the most important people in it all. The players are there but it will take a while to get their confidence back.
"We have to support John and his backroom team and everyone has to put their shoulder to the wheel."
