Galway to welcome back Burkes

February 07, 2020

Galway's David Burke and Daithí Burke.

Galway hurling boss Shane O'Neill expects David and Daithí Burke to return to training in the next fortnight.

2017 All-Ireland winning captain David took time out to go travelling, while Daithí was part of the Corofin team that completed a three-in-a-row of All-Ireland club SFC titles last month.

“David should be back in the next 10 days I'd say. It is a great boost, a former captain and a magnificent player," O'Neill told gaa.ie at this morning's press briefing at the Loughrea Hotel & Spa.

“He will be back in the next few days. Daithi Burke will be back as well. He isn't on the pitch with us, but he is doing his own work. What he is doing would be slightly different from football to hurling.”

The Limerick man is unsure if Joseph Cooney, who is currently in Australia, will be available this season.

“He is in Australia obviously at the moment, but I'm not saying he mightn't be back at some stage. He might. At the moment he can't give the commitment and that is fine,” he added.
