O'Brien optimistic over McGrath return

Fermanagh manager Pete McGrath

Fermanagh defender Marty O'Brien says he's hopeful that Pete McGrath will be back in charge of the team for a fourth season in 2017.

Following his side's All-Ireland SFC exit to Mayo last weekend, McGrath is set to consider his future with the Ernesiders and O'Brien believes the county board will do all they can to retain the Down man's services.

"I'd imagine that the county board and Pete will sit down in the next few weeks and decide that. I imagine the county board would like to have him back," O'Brien told the Gaelic Life newspaper.

"There's a good set-up in place and it's improving year-on-year and I don't see any reason to split that up, we've seen in Fermanagh that sometimes when you change a manager for a few years that it takes two or three years to recover."
