As you will probably have read in the local press Fermanagh and Mayo will be 'Playing for Sam' on Saturday May 4 when they take to Brewster Park in a pre-championship friendly in aid of 'the Sam Bradley care fund.' Sam is the 21 month old son of Colm and Michelle Bradley who is currently undergoing treatment for a rare and aggressive cancer. When the teams take to the field Sam will be recovering from eight hour surgery to remove a tumour from his right kidney.

'He has been so brave,' explained Sam's father, former Fermanagh player, Colm, 'he has had six cycles of chemotherapy in sixty days and has bounced back so well. The surgery is the second phase in a six phase treatment plan before more chemo, radiation and then immunotherapy. He has been through a lot but he just keeps smiling and refuses to let anything keep him down.'

A part of Sam's treatment is only available in Europe on a clinical trial basis and there is a possibility that complications would mean Sam may not qualify for some of the potentially life saving drugs.

Both the Fermanagh and Mayo teams were quick to lend their support to this good cause. Sam's mother is a native of Mayo with Sam proud of his Mayo roots and sported the colours when the county reached the All Ireland final last year. But he has said he will be supporting Fermanagh all the way when the two sides meet in Brewster Park.
