Lory Meagher Cup-2012
Round 1

Fermanagh, 1 gls. 19 pts;
Longford, 1 gl. 8 pts.

Fermanagh senior hurlers successfully opened their Lory Meagher campaign, with a relative easy win over Longford visitors at Brewster park, Enniskillen, last Saturday 5th May, 2012. They more collectively positive Ernesiders side, lead from this game's beginning to its end. With notable exception of the mid-landers mid-fielder Eoin Donnellan, they sole scorer who struck twenty one frees and was rewarded with a paltry 1 goal 8 points, but alas for him and his team, and alas for he also pucked away 12 wasteful wide's, allowing his hosts win with high margin of eleven points. For they Fermanagh panel, there was many plus such as Mark Slevin at centre half back, who's second performance of high fielding and distribution of the slithors to his attacking colleagues was truly superb. Immediately in front of the big man was Ryan Bogue at mid-field who fired over a massive 11 points, then further up at the right corner berth was Sean Corrigan though with an usually modest scoring performance, kept his opponents spell bound, with agility and sheer brilliance, when attacking with slithor.

The Game -first half

Fermanagh Early and Often On The Attack.

Late Fermanagh substitute Paul McGolderick in the first minute of this match, who was quickly to

latch onto ar to incoming slithor, turned goal wards and pucked over his and his sides first point from play. Moments later Longford's sole scorer Eoin Donnellan of the match clipped over his and side's first point from a free. Thus bringing about this game's only draw. However and still in the open quarter of this game the Ernesiders right half forward John Duffy and his teammate and right full forward Sean Corrigan, and mid-fielder Ryan Bogue each popped over their sides second, third fourth and fifth points from play and from frees. However the far from dormant Longford ace free taker Eoin Donnellan clipped his and side's third point, now bringing this game's end of the opening quarter scores, as 4 points for the boisterous Fermanagh side to 2 points for the more modest Longford. Keeping they mid-landers in the scoring stakes Eoin Donnellan popped over his team's third point from a free. Unlucky for him they more competitive Fermanagh side now added a further four unanswered points from frees and from play. Within five minutes Longford's sole scorer sharpened up his scoring stick to puck over his side's last two points of the opening half. When this games thirty sixty minute had passed they matches referee blew for this game's interval on opening half that was as one sided as well as unadventurous by both competing sides.

Half time scores

Fermanagh, 0 gl. 9 pts; Longford, gl.5 pts.

Second Half

A Goal Each From Both Sides

As in this game's opening half it was they host Ernesiders who raced up to the scoring plate, first, when Sean Corrigan clipped over his second and his side's tenth point from play. Then in a personal blitz of scoring Fermanagh's tall left half forward J.P. McGarry firstly popped over effortlessly taken point from play. Then massively going into overdrive they latter seized on incoming slithor and going on a Route '1' run, then banged the ball ferociously into his opponent's net to have they early first scoring registered as 1 goal 11 points for they Fermanagh hosts to 5 points for they Longford visitors. With a mere five minutes gone in this game's second half, it was again for the Ernesiders Ryan Bogue and to race up to the scoring plate for the third time, and put his team further in front. Then still enthuastic Eoin Donnellan clipped over his and his sides sixth point from a free. As this game's third quarter was fast ebbing away and so was the chances of Longford recovered. With their ace scorer Eoin Donnellan now wasting twice as many potential scoring chances, the way was left opening for they sure footed Fermanagh ace scorer at mid-field Ryan Bogue to puck over an amazing seven points from frees and play, till the end of the match. However one Longford stalwart insisted in attacking and eventually scoring. Eoin Donnellan major reward for persistence in attacking his opponent's defences came about with under ten minutes to full time, firstly tipping over his and his side's eighth and last point. However they mid -landers had one last major score open their ample sleeves, when owning to a defender's technical error, a close in free was awarded to they now very under the cosh Longford lad's mid-fielder, which was taken by sole scorer Eoin Donnellan who drilled the fasting moving slithor into the deepest recesses of their hosts net, for his and sides last score. Whilst they Longford scoring icon had terminated his afternoon of successful attacking, not so the dominant Fermanagh host major scorer Ryan Bogue, who profitably spent they game's concluding minutes in profitably in honing his scoring skills for the next round of the Lory Meagher Cup. For the rest of his colleagues reassessment of their defending and attacking skills is urgently required, when taking on the big hurling big beast such as Tyrone.
