McKenna Cup round-up

January 08, 2012
Down won the big derby in the opening round of the McKenna Cup, while Donegal lost.

The Mourne County finished like a house on fire against neighbours Armagh in Newry, winning by 2-12 to 0-10, while Ulster champions Donegal fell to a 0-11 to 0-9 defeat to UUJ at Letterkenny.

Tyrone also improved as their match went on, eventually defeating Queens by 1-13 to 1-5 in Omagh.

Peter Canavan's reign as Fermanagh boss got off to an encouraging start as Antrim were beaten by 2-11 to 1-6 at Enniskillen.

Monaghan started nervously but found their feet to come away from Clones with a 0-14 to 0-6 victory over St Mary's and holders Derry pipped Cavan by the odd point from 25 in a Celtic Park classic.
