Fermanagh's Ryan McCloskey
Peter Canavan believes Ryan McCluskey was an obvious choice as Fermanagh captain.

The 30-year-old Enniskillen Gaels defender has turned his back on a soccer career with Irish Premiership side Dungannon Swifts to give his full commitment to the Erne County cause in 2012.

"I know him only too well from the field as our paths crossed a few times as players. He is a top-class defender," the new Fermanagh manager told the Fermanagh Herald.

"He is a very competitive and very talented player and he has made a huge commitment to Fermanagh this year. He has leadership qualities and I want him to show them and I am expecting a big year from Ryan."

Looking ahead to Sunday's McKenna Cup opener against Antrim in Brewster Park, Canavan added: "Antrim have made serious progress in the last number of years under Liam Bradley. They will be well prepared this weekend and I am expecting a very competitive and fit Antrim team to take to the field."
