Donnelly relishing new role

January 06, 2012
Former Fermanagh player Kieran Donnelly is looking forward to his new role as physical trainer with the Erne County.

Donnelly, who was forced to retire from inter-county football after suffering a mystery virus in 2004, had been Peter Canavan's assistant at Errigal Ciaran over the past three years and was only too happy to follow him to Fermanagh.

"I was delighted to be asked. It's always nice to be involved with your own county at any stage and I see it as a great opportunity," he said in the Fermanagh Herald.

Donnelly has been pleased with the attitude of the Fermanagh players so far.

"We're hoping that this will continue, but there's a lot of work to do. The one thing I'd say is it's great to have home venue for our first match in the McKenna Cup. You have to accept that Antrim have been together for two or three years under the same management and people might say that this is more of an advantage to them.

"But there's always a good atmosphere at Brewster Park. I found that when I was playing there so hopefully this will repeat itself on Sunday with a big Fermanagh turnout."
