Derrylin stunned by deaths of club presidents

January 06, 2012
The Derrylin O'Connell's club mourned the passing of its joint-presidents, John Drumm and Paddy Maguire, who died within five minutes of each other on New Year's Eve.

Both men gave sterling service to Derrylin GAA down the years and had the honour of cutting the tape at the official opening of the border club's new pitch in 2010. Large crowds attended their funerals which took place in Derrylin on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

In a glowing tribute to John Drumm, Derrylin club officer Martin McBrien said he was "typical of this vast army of voluntary club workers who form the bedrock of the GAA."
