In feisty but fair Round "12" of the Armagh Senior Hurling League the hosts and this matches eventually winners Lisbellaw finally overcame a dogged last quarter resistance affected by this game's visitors Derrynoose from south Armagh. Whilst St Patrick's at the games interval lead their visitors with a comfortable score of 2 goals 6 points to 1 goal 5 points for Naomh Mochua. The final winning of this match by Lisbellaw was down to a variety of contributing factors, skill in attack, tenacity in defence, but above was the late introduction of St Patrick's substitute Ciaran McTeague, when he immediately came on played like a Lisbellaw lion let loose, culminating in blasting home St Patrick's fifth and final goal.

The Game - the first half.

Even Stephen's and low scoring.

This games opening quarter scoring of five points for Lisbellaw to four points for the visiting Derrynoose, belied the intensity of the hurling battle witnessed on Cavananacarragh Hurling Park. It was St Patrick's Sean Corrigan at left corner forward who opened his sides scoring account, with a point from play. Very quickly Derrynoose's Micky Lennon pucked from a free to create this matches' first draw of a point apiece. But as soon as the slithor was fired down field Lisbellaw's mid-fielder John Duffy who put the host back in front for the second time from a free. However Derrynoose came back with scoring vengeance, when Philly McArdle and Stephen McNaughton clipped over two well taken points from play to put they visitors in front with scores of three points to two for the match's hosts. With the games opening quarter quickly ebbing out, it was Lisbellaw's mid-fielder John Duffy that put the host back on par with the Naomh Mochua side with three points apiece, and the third tie of the match. As before it was the more slight more scoring orientated Deerynoose who went back in front, when their ace scorer Micky Lennon pucked over his second and his sides fourth point. With the games second quarter fast approaching this matches' see-saw of scoring opportunities continued, when St Patrick's mid-fielder Brendan McGarry seized on an incoming slithor and then immediately ran through his opponents defence, and whilst doing so fired over his side fourth point, which also brought about the games fourth draw. But the beginning of this matches second quarter saw a scoring twist, with the Lisbellaw side putting scores back-to-back, when ace free taker John Duffy popped over his second and his sides fifth point. And as before the latter Lisbellaw score was quickly match by Derrynoose's fifth point and draw by their ace free taker Micky Lennon with his third point. However it those minor scores that fuelled him to register the games first major score, when he banged home Derrynoose's first goal, and putting the south Armagh side decisively in front with a score of 1 goal 5 points to 5 points for their Lisbellaw host's. Suddenly this game took on a different complexion with the St Patrick's smarting from a major score against them, began their fight back firstly with a point pucked over from John Duffy who on grabbing a pucked out slithor immediately turned and then whipped the ball over his opponents bar to narrow the Derrynoose's modest scoring advantage. With the games opening half quickly ending a note of scoring urgency entered into the attacking tactics of all of the Lisbellaw team, mentors. Egged on by their supporters. They latter were not to be disappointed. With literary minutes to half-time St Patrick's massive scoring machine speeded up to top gear, with first the first of their opening half goals blasted in by their right full forward from play. Then on the whistle blow of half time the latter scorer Sean Corrigan grabbed an incoming slithor and then waltzed passed several opponent defenders to bang home his second major score. Both sides now took a well earned rest, but admiration most go to a very resilient Lisbellaw side, who not alone overcame their opponent modest scoring lead and then themselves firmly in the driving seat for the games resumption.

Half time scores

Lisbellaw St Patrick's, 2gls. 6pts; Derrynoose Naomh Mochua, 1gl. 5 pts.

Derrynoose Dominate Opening - Briefly!

This games final half in contrast to the previous thirty minutes began with the visiting Derrynoose sides Francie Woods registering his side's second goal from play. Then the recently returned exile Ryan Bogue with a pointed free put the St Patrick's side back in front with a score of 2 goals 7 point to 2 goals 5 points for Naomh Mochua. It was about now Lisbellaw firmly grabbed hold of the game, when firstly Peter Timoney fired home his side's third goal. Whilst both sides now briefly resorted to aerial scoring, with two points being pucked over by Derrynoose's Micky Lennon from frees. With St Patrick's relying on a modest single point from Karl Kehoe bringing the near end of the games third quarter scoring as, 3 goals 8 points for Lisbellaw to 2 goals 8 points for visitors Derrynoose. However this game was now all about scoring goals. Lots of them! With St Patrick's now requiring a substitute on comes a super sub in the guise of Ciaran McTeague, who grabbed an incoming slithor and quite legally burled his way through a frantic Deerynoose and blasted home Lisbellaw's fourth goal. With both the match's time running out and conversely the St Patrick's side massively stepping up their scoring ante. However it was points that their attackers next chalked up from John Duffy and Brendan McGarry. However and against the run of play Derrynoose now proved that they were still a potent force, when Derrynoose's Micky Lennon banged home his side's third and final goal. They same player added a modest point to wraps up his and his sides scoring for the evening. However though their was still over five minutes to full time the matches eventual winners Lisbellaw weren't at all satisfied and witnessed and coordinated on rush on the Naomh Mochua defence which resulted in an incoming slithor being dropped out of the nervous hand of Deerynoose goalie into the waiting palm of Lisbellaw right corner forward Daniel Teague to apply the coup-de-gras to the still battling south mouth. Then, just before full time John Duffy gilded the scoring lily with a last minute final point for the victories Lisbellaw side.
