Played at a hectic pace from this games beginning to its' end, them outcome of this match was only decided in its dying minutes, with the games hosts Lisbellaw being reduced to fourteen men, the Keady visitors then broke away and then went on to win with a margin of three points. As an example of the competitive nature of the game there was no fewer than seven draws, including a half-time tie of five points each.
The Game -the first half.
Lisbellaw Strike First
This fast flowing game witnessed the matches scoring first with a point from play by Lisbellaw's mid-fielder John Duffy. That score was quickly answered by the visitors Keady's Micky McDermott, who created this matches' first draw, when he fired over and also play. However that score inspire the St Patrick's attack to move matters up a few gears, with firstly their left corner forward Sean Corrigan clipping over his first and his side's second point from a free. The latter Lisbellaw lad was now joined by a previous host scorer John Duffy, who put St Patrick's in front with a score from a '65, which saw the host go in front with a score of three points to one for the Red Hands. With the games first quarter quickly ebbing away the Keady side rejoined the scoring game beginning with their second point from Brian McNaughton. The latter was joined in this white flag raising exercise by his team mate Liam McKee, who brought about this matches' second draw of three points each. Now with this game entering its' second quarter this continuous but intermittent scoring continued, with St Patrick's Sean Corrigan clipping over his second and his sides fourth point to put the hosts in front once more. However this see-saw scoring game witnessed a third draw, when Keady's Paul McCormick pucked over his sides fourth point. Though there was still most of the second quarter to be played this game saw only two more scores. One point from each side. John Duffy once more did the honours for the Lisbellaw lads, and Brian McNaughton popping over the Red Hands fifth point and the games fifth draw.
Half time scores.
. Lisbellaw St Patrick's, 0 gl. 5 pts; Keady Red Hands, 0 gl 5 pts.
Keady strike first, but Lisbellaw score a goal.
Unlike the matches' opening quarter it was the visitors Keady, who were first up to the games scoring plate, with their sixth point from a free by Micky McDermott to put ominously put them ahead for the first time. Minutes later they went further ahead with another white flag raising score from play by Gerard Enright. The now very jubilant Red Hand side believed they were now on a cruise to an early victory. But the rejuvenated Hosts Lisbellaw massively upped their attacking game. And then after immense and repeated attacks on the Keady defence witnessed St Patrick's veteran Fergus Bannon blast home from close quarters for this games solitary goal. With the early third quarter score sheet now registering the Lisbellaw lads tenuously in front with a score of 1 goal 5 points to 7 points for the Red Hands this game was there for either side to win or to loose. An indication to the final scoring outcome of this game was the origin of the next score, which came from Keady's Micky McDermott who popped over his sides eight point from play, to bring about this matches fifth draw. However it was the south Armagh visitors who broke the games equilibrium, when Gerard Enright clipped over his sides ninth point. The scoring stalemate was quickly returned to when the hosts Lisbellaw rejoing the scoring fray with their sixth point from play by John Duffy, and have the score sheet read, Lisbellaw 1 goal 6 points to 9 points for Keady. Now with less than ten minutes to the games end both sides massively stepped up their attacks and the match now became a down-to-the-wire scenario, with the looser to blink first. Unfortunately though the hosts Lisbellaw held their Red Hand opponent to a draw with five minutes to full time, it was they had a player sent off after a second yellow card. That was the scoring signal for the Keady side to step up aggression and attacks on the St Patrick's defences then succumbed to conceding four more points in that space of time to their more tenacious visitors. Brian McNaughton was Keady's four time points score at the matches end. Whilst Lisbellaw's mid-fielder Brendan McGarry, with St Patrick's seventh point and last point attempted to keep his side in the scoring game. Alas too little, too late.
