Quinn Insurance Fermanagh Senior Football Championship 2010

After the excitement of the All Ireland football quarter finals last weekend, the excitement in Fermanagh continues this weekend with the first round of the Quinn Insurance Fermanagh Senior Football Championship. Defending champions Derrygonnelly have a very tough task ahead if they are to successfully defend as they face 2007 champions Newtownbutler on Saturday in Tempo at 7.30pm. Newtownbutler's league form this year has been mixed, but have always raise their game for the championship while Derrygonnelly will use all their experience to defend their title. The action all begins on Friday evening in Lisnaskea at 7.30pm where it is the clash of Division 2 sides Kinawley and Enniskillen. Enniskillen have struggled in recent years and the height's of seven county titles, six in a row from 1998-2003 and again in 2006 is all but history, Kinawley on the other hand being 2009 Intermediate Championship will hold no fear of the Gaels especially having a big win in the league only a few weeks ago. On Sunday there is a double header in Brewster Park with what could be the tie of the round with league leaders Belcoo take on last year's beaten finalists Roslea at 3.00pm. Belcoo have promised much in the league over the last few years but have failed to make progress in the championship, Roslea on the other hand will be aiming to go one further this year that their county final appearance last year. Belcoo have had the edge in winning both their league meetings this year but Rolsea will know championship football is a different game. Completing the weekend action at 4.30pm will be Tempo and Teemore. Teemore are struggling in the league this year and look very likely to be heading for Division 2, they will be hoping to get their season back on track and with Barry Owens having a few games under his belt will see Tempo as a team they can overcome. Tempo have been a tricky team to play in the championship in the last few years and will be confident they have the edge on a struggling Teemore side.
