Attendances pass one million mark

August 02, 2010
Despite cries over poor attendances at this year's championships, the GAA broke the one million spectator mark on Saturday afternoon.

Kerry supporters Sandra Clancy became the one millionth spectator to attend a GAA championship match this year when she attended the Kerry v. Down clash.

The day may have started off well for Sandra, who received premium level tickets for this year's All-Ireland football final as well as an overnight stay in the Croke Park hotel suite, but delight soon turned to despair as she saw her native county surprisingly defeated by Down.

The news that over one million spectators have attended the 2010 championship games so far comes after Croke Park claimed that there was far too many games on the television and this was affecting attendances.
