This was a depleted Erneside, with star defenders Declan McGarry and Mathew Teague off due to injuries. However it was the buoyant visiting Ernsiders was first and decisely ran up to the scoring plate, when their right fully forward Sean Corrigan who within moments of the matches beginning blasted home his and Fermanagh's first goal from. A short time leader his team colleague and full forward Brendan McGarry increased his side winning margin by unanswered point from play. That visiting scoring dominance quickly came to end, when they now full confident Farney side fiercely seized control of the scoring iniative from the tenth minute onward, and then forcing their besieged defenders into conceding many frees, which the accurately converted into scorable opportunities. The Monaghan attackers led by their full forward Michael McHugh who topped over two points from frees. Second half
Fermanagh First Out Of the Blocks
As the games opening half it was the visiting Fermanagh who struck firstly and decisively, when their big full forward Brendan McGarry, who registered his embattled sides second goal. In an almost carbon copy of this games opening half it was the Fermanagh side who scored again, when John Duffy clipped over his second and his sides fourth point. This was de jevue time again, when after a series of five wides and then up to the scoring plate, Monaghan regained control of the playing park and largely control of the score board. With further major score from their talisman Brian McGuigan and points from his team mates, Michael McHugh, Seamus Loftus Monaghan were well on their merry way to victory and further two points on the divisional table. However Fermanagh were far from finished and in the last quarter they had an inspirational second goal from Sean Corrigan and third point by John Duffy. Then rather subdued Ernesiders left half forward Paul McGolderick fired over a brace of points from frees to complete his sides modest tally of scores. A further two minutes of extra time was played in a game who's outcome was decided early in the matches' first half. The Fermanagh players limped off on the long drive home from a game they were in inexplicably proved to their opponents that they (the Ernesiders) were the underdogs. Some travelling supporters wondered aloud with a new training regime and new trainer Noel McDonnell, and experienced management of Rory O'Donnell, Jason McManus and Brien Quinn, Fermanagh were so lack lustre in approach to the match. Round "3" of the National Hurling League of 2010, will take place at home venue against Cavan.
