Love takes over at Enniskillen Gaels

January 22, 2010
Enniskillen Gaels have appointed Gerry Love as their new senior football manager for the 2010 season. Love, who has guided local soccer club Enniskillen Town to four league titles in the past, won two Fermanagh SFC medals with Enniskillen Gaels in 1987 and 1992 and has claimed that managing his native club has always been a desire of his. "Work commitments meant that I could not commit fully to the soccer management," Love explained. "I have to work one in three Saturdays so it was just not fair to continue with Orchard Farm but truth be told managing Enniskillen Gaels is something that I always wanted to do." Love also explained that Gaelic football was something he would always choose over soccer if it came to making a decision. "I have always been a Gaels man," he stated. "I remember helping put in the posts when the place was being built and as I have always said to people if I had a choice between playing a game of soccer or Gaelic I would choose the Gaelic. "I think the Gaelic this are a little different. With the soccer there a number of teams you can play for but with Gaelic you play for your home town." While the championship is the priority for any club, Love has stated that winning league games in Division Two will be vital in the build-up to next summer. "Championship football is all about having some form going into it and we can only get that through winning matches in the league so we will concentrate on that first," said the new manager.
