Big night in McKenna Cup

January 20, 2010
The Barrett Sports Lighting Dr McKenna Cup continues tonight with a full round of games down for decision. In Group A, Fermanagh take on UUJ at Brewster Park, while Monaghan and Armagh will due battle in Inniskeen. In Group B, Cavan entertain St. Mary's at Kingspan Breffni Park, while first round winners Donegal and Tyrone face off in Ballybofey. The games down for decision in Group C are Down versus Antrim at Newry and Derry versus Queen's at Celtic Park. Much of the focus will be on the meeting of holders Donegal and Ulster champions Tyrone at MacCumhaill Park. Donegal opened their defence with a 0-11 to 0-9 victory over Cavan and their manager John Joe Doherty is keen to maintain winning ways. "We want to be winning matches and we know Tyrone will be a different challenge for us and we'll have to up our game from the Cavan match if we're going to win," he said. "Like the Cavan match, you're trying to get fellas' run-outs, but at the same time you're trying to put out a team strong enough to compete. I think you're always better trying to win matches. It's a matter of trying to build up a bit of momentum and it's easier to do that on the back of victories than defeats. "The National League is just around the corner, and you want to hit the ground running in that if you can, so we'll be looking to build some momentum, then keep it going."
