2010 season set for belated start

January 15, 2010
After some uncertainty in mid-week, all of this weekend's rescheduled inter-county games look set to go ahead. The freezing conditions have at last made way for much milder weather, meaning all of this weekend's O'Byrne Cup, McGrath Cup, McKenna Cup, FBD League and Waterford Crystal Cup fixtures should take place as planned. In Leinster, all eight O'Byrne Cup first round ties are on course to take place, with just two venue changes seeing the Westmeath v DCU and Kilkenny v Offaly ties switched from Cusack Park and Freshford to Lakepoint Park (St. Loman's) and Thomastown respectively. There are expected to be some venue changes in Connacht's FBD League with Tuam Stadium rated as doubtful to host the game between Galway and Sligo, while Ulster Council officials are confident the weekend's McKenna Cup matches will take place despite pitch inspections scheduled for the six venues today. The three McGrath preliminary round games in Munster, which fell foul of the weather for a third time last night, will take place tomorrow with the winners of each tie in action again on Sunday.
