Gallagher scoops Ulster monthly award
12 December 2009Rory Gallagher has been named as the Quinn Insurance Ulster GAA Writers' Merit Award winner for November.
The accolade is richly deserved after Gallagher - who is hoping to earn a Fermanagh recall in 2010 - played a starring role for St. Gall's in their capture of the Ulster club football title. His most eye-catching performance came in the semi-final win over Clontibret when he helped himself to 2-3.
"I was delighted at winning the Ulster title and now to get the monthly award really tops the victory. I'm very pleased at being chosen by the Ulster GAA Writers for their Quinn Insurance monthly award," said the free-scoring forward, who also won a Leinster club medal with Dublin club St. Brigid's in 2003.
Gallagher pipped his St. Gall's namesake Aodhan Gallagher for the award, with Cookstown's Barry Mulligan also in the mix. Former Tyrone full back Chris Lawn, who managed Cookstown to the Ulster club IFC title, also got special mention.
