Timing of biting allegation disappoints 'Pillar'

Paul Caffrey has expressed his disappointment at Meath manager Mick O'Dowd for alleging that Mickey Burke had been bitten by a Dublin opponent so soon after the Leinster SFC final.

O'Dowd told the assembled media afterwards: "I see the doctor dealing with his (Burke's) finger and he has gone to the Dublin dressing room to talk to their doctor.

"There's a protocol to deal with in terms of a bite, in terms of blood transferring from one person to another. Extremely disappointed."

In his Irish Daily Mirror column, former Dublin boss Caffrey said the timing of the allegation has the potential damage relations between the Leinster rivals.

"There has always been great respect between Dublin and Meath over the years," he wrote.

"I don't know the ins and outs of the alleged biting incident, but it was disappointing that Mick O'Dowd went on record so quickly after the game.

"It wasn't in keeping with the counties' relationship."
