Dessie Farrell believes Dublin were far from their best in last night's Leinster U21FC final against Meath.

The Metropolitans justified their favouritism with a five-point success, but manager Farrell insists they have a lot of improving to do before they meet the Ulster champions in the All-Ireland semi-final.

"We knew Meath were going to provide a stiff encounter and we're just glad we came through it," he is quoted in the Irish Examiner.

"We were sloppy at times and it will be interesting to review the tape to see what was going on, in certain situations. You wouldn't be happy with our performance in the first half. To go in four points ahead at half-time wasn't a true reflection of how we performed.

"We came out and kicked a few then but Meath kept plugging away and we were fortunate enough to hold on.

"Meath kept asking questions and got through the middle there a few times, and a couple of saves from our 'keeper just gave us that bit of breathing space. On a different day we could have been licking our wounds at this stage of the evening," he added.
