GMIT needed extra time to defeat Trinity College by 2-21 to 2-15 in this clash at Fontenoy.
In a thrilling contest, GMIT fought their way back in the second half to force the game into extra time. The star of the show for the Galway students was Jimmy Gelston, who finished with a personal tally of 0-12, all from placed balls.
GMIT got off to a great start when Niall Mannion scored a goal after just six minutes, but Trinity responded with two goals from Colm Gleeson and Mark O'Sullivan to give them a 2-10 to 2-7 half time lead.
Gleston hit over seven frees in the second half to help force the game into extra time and the Galway students pushed on from there and will now meet either Meath or St Pat's Drumcondra in the final.
