McManamon wants starting berth

Dublin's Kevin McManamon celebrates after the win over Donegal.
Kevin McManamon hopes to go from supersub to Dublin regular in 2012.

The St Jude's clubman came off the bench to play crucial roles in Dublin's 2011 All-Ireland semi-final and final victories over Donegal and Kerry respectively and, as Pat Gilroy's charges prepare to open their league campaign against the Kingdom at Croke Park on Saturday night, he has a reminder for his manager:

"I hope he doesn't get any ideas that the bench is where I'm staying. I'm hoping to be playing against Kerry. I've played a lot of league football in the last few years and it has stood to me come championship time but it's about taking the next step.

"I wasn't able to start last year, but it's all about nailing down a spot and getting to the next level.

"Once you get told you're not playing, the only way to react is to be annoyed for a few minutes and just get on with the job in hand. I was disappointed not to start the final, but you just have to get on with it and do what you can for the team."
