Dublin SFC: Plunkett's have that little bit extra

August 27, 2010
St. Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh needed extra-time to get the better of St. Sylvester's by 1-12 to 3-5 in last night's Dublin SFC clash at Parnell Park.

The Malahide side looked set for victory when three first half goals from Louth star Darren Clarke, Russell Cleere and Aidan Relihan gave them the upper hand, with Cavan 'import' Gareth Smith keeping Plunkett's in contention with a penalty and four points from play.

Plunkett's gradually clawed their way back in the second half with Alan Brogan's late point forcing extra-time, 1-9 to 3-3.

A brace of Clarke points edged Sylvester's back in front, but late scores from Meath's Anthony Moyles and Smith (free) gave the Navan Road outfit victory by the narrowest of margins.

At Kiltipper Road, UCD defeated Templeogue Synge Street by 0-10 to 1-5. Synge Street included Eoghan O'Gara and Denis Bastick in their line-up, but the students still had the edge with Ciaran Kelly accounting for half of their tally.

On Wednesday night, Fingal Ravens defeated St. Mark's by 0-14 to 1-9, while Thomas Davis were 0-14 to 0-10 winners over last year's intermediate champions St. Pat's of Palmerstown.
