Gilroy denies AFL bias

Dublin football boss Pat Gilroy has denied any suggestion that has put the gun to the heads of any of his players who seek to advance their chances of a career in the AFL.

Gilroy has come out strongly in defending himself against the allegation that he threatened to axe four young footballers from his squad for this weekend's trip to Mayo if they attended an AFL trial in Meath earlier this week.

Cian O'Sullivan, James McCarthy, Rory O'Carroll and Paddy Andrews turned down invitations from AFL scout Ricky Nixon to make the short trip to Gormanston College for the camp.

"Nobody asked me if they could go to any camp," said Gilroy in the Irish Examiner. "I've no problem with it. If a fella wants to go to a camp, he can go to a camp.

"If a fella wants to give that game a go, it's really none of my business.

"If they didn't go, it's nothing to do with me, unless one of the selectors said something, but I doubt it.

"It's totally their own concern. It's their private business. It's nothing to do with Dublin.

"I have nothing to do with that man (Nixon). It's their professional career. I couldn't tell a fella not to go for an interview for a job."
