New ticket scheme sales 'slow but steady'
January 06, 2009
The GAA has described sales of their new season ticket scheme as 'slow but steady', but are expecting an upsurge in sales in the coming weeks.
The ticket, which costs EUR75 and is aimed at rewarding loyal GAA followers, entitles the holder entry to all National League round games and the first round of the senior championship involving their county in their chosen code, as well as a discounted price for all subsequent games, excluding provincial and All-Ireland finals.
Each county has received 250 tickets per code for the scheme, but so far, only Dublin and Tyrone have sold their football allocation.
However, Croke Park ticketing chief Ronan Murphy has claimed that a number of counties are close to doing likewise.
"We were not surprised that Dublin and Tyrone sold out so quickly. Dublin would have a large following, while Tyrone are All-Ireland champions," he said.
"The sales have been slow but steady since we launched in December but I've been surprised by the interest since after the Christmas break.
"Tipperary are going to go by the end of the week while the other Munster hurling counties are selling well.
"Armagh are also selling very well while there has been a big surge in the last few days for Kerry and Mayo."
