Fennell on the move

Dublin's Eamonn Fennell and Ronan Carroll of Louth contest the ball during their Leinster SFC meeting at Croke Park
Dublin midfielder Eamon Fennell is poised to join All-Ireland club football champions St. Vincent's from O'Toole's. Fennell, who was previously linked with a move to Ballymun Kickhams, lodged his transfer application with the Dublin county board ahead of yesterday's closing date, and O'Toole's have until January 9 to object if they so wish. In the event of O'Toole's objecting, Fennell will have the option to sit out the year and then move without any potential block in 2010. The big midfielder made a major impact during this year's National League and retained his place for the early rounds of the Leinster championship. His signing would represent a significant coup for St. Vincent's, who were beaten in this year's county semi-final by Kilmacud Crokes after a replay, and have missed the ball-winning presence of Michael O'Shea, who moved back to Kerry following last March's All-Ireland club final victory over Nemo Rangers. Fennell's club-mate and former Dublin minor Ger Coughlan, has also applied for a move to the Marino club, while another county player, John O'Brien, is seeking a transfer from Round Towers, Clondalkin to Good Counsel.
