O'Grady calls for fairness over league fixtures
December 10, 2008
Former Dublin hurling manager Michael O'Grady has hit out at the 2009 National Hurling League fixtures which sees the Metropolitans having more away than home games for the third year running.
"I looked a bit deeper and found that Kilkenny had three home and two away games in 2007 and 2008, and will have four home and three away this year," he said.
"Surely the committee in charge of fixtures could make a bigger effort to give all teams a fair deal. This sloppiness gives the impression that the league doesn't really matter."
Dublin aren't the only county to lose out in the home-away split in recent years which has also occurred in football.
O'Grady added: "Kilkenny are such a wonderful team that I believe it would help the promotion of hurling if they were fixed for as many away games as possible."
