Dublin manager Gerry McGill and Niamh McEvoy celebrate a famous win for Dublin at Croke Park
Dublin manager Gerry McGill couldn't praise Sinead Aherne enough after her scoring heroics in yesterday's TG4 All-Ireland senior ladies football final victory over Tyrone.

The brilliant full forward scored 2-7 as the Jackies powered to an historic 3-16 to 0-9 win and McGill gushed: "Big players play on big days and Sinead Aherne has pulled us out of the fire on more than one occasion with here performances.

"Today was no different. You can only imagine what she went through in the last 12 months (after missing a penalty against Cork in last year's final). She, in a lot of ways, blamed herself. To put on a performance like she did today shows the type of player she is. She is a marvellous, marvellous individual."

McGill was delighted with the response of his players to last year's heartbreaking defeat.

"It took us a long time to get over this time last year but we made a decision that we were never going to feel like that again," he added.

"In order to achieve that we had to go over and beyond anything we had done last year. Challenges were put down on both sides, the players and the management. Defeat wasn't an option today.

"The mentality we have is that everyone works for each other. When we don't have it (the ball), we work hard to get it back and when we do have it we move it quickly to crack on scores."
