Sligo go Down
February 02, 2008
McKenna Cup champions Down rallied superbly in the second half to nick the points from Sligo in a heartwarming NFL Division Three clash at Newry.
The Connacht champions looked to be cruising to victory when leading by 2-4 to 0-4 at half-time after Mark Breheny and Eamon Cawley had banged home a fine goal apiece.
However the introduction of Paul McComiskey, Benny Coulter and Colm Murney served to transform Down's form as the second half gathered pace.
The points rained in on the Sligo goal with some excellent efforts in particular from Daniel Hughes and John Fegan as Sligo's lead was gradually whittled down.
Eventually Down got on top and a Jackie Lynch fisted goal plus the dismissal of Sligo's Eamon O'Hara had the Mournemen streaking to another morale-boosting win.
