FOOTBALL

SFL - Clonduff 1-9 V Saval 1-9

This is a game Clonduff should have and could have won - but they shot 13 wides including three consecutive wides in time added on which would have secured the two points. In saying that it was an exciting game to watch with end to end play - both sets of forwards were off form though. The half time score was 0-5 apiece. The visitors got early second half goal, Clonduff answered with two points before the defence cleared their lines and Patrick O'Hagan carried the ball the length of the field before passing into Arthur turned and fired to the net from the edge of the square. Clonduff then got another point to go three up. However, the visitors seemed to find their shooting boots at that stage and levelled the game. Try as they might, Clonduff had all the play from then on but just couldn't convert one of those wides!
Team and scorers: Paul Gribben, Brendan Britton, Shane O'Hagan, Shane McGreevy, Charlie Carr, Darren O'Hagan, Paul Lively, Patrick O'Hagan (0-2), Henry Brown, Stephen McConville, Aidan Carr (0-1), Barry O'Hagan (0-1), Arthur McConville (1-4), Conor Óg O'Hagan, Rian Branagan. Subs used: Finbarr McConville (0-1), Jayme Gribben, Conall Brown, Eamon Grant

ACMFL CLONDUFF 5-8 v LIATROM 3-13
Clonduff minors hosted Liatroim on Tuesday evening in what was a tense and sometimes heated affair. After drawing with early league pace setters Burren last week the Fontenoys came searching for one better this week with Clonduff hoping to win two from two at home.
The game may not have produced the best football at times but what it did produce was end to end football with many twists and exciting scores! Both teams had their chances to win the game with late frees and it was Clonduff who converted in the last kick of the game to take the spoils! Liatroim were a formidable outfit and it took a show of real character for the Yellas to bounce back and win this game.
Team: Conor Keenan, Jonathan Gribben, Patrick Branagan, Callan Branagan, Tiernan McEvoy, Lyndon Brown, Ryan Matthews, Conor Woods, Ross Carr, Colm Fearon, John Boden, Dean McCabe, Brandon Roe, Ryan McGreevy, Jamie O'Hagan. Subs: Christopher Lynch, Darren Quinn, Ben McConville, Thomas O'Hare

SD U16 FL Div 1 Rostrevor 4-7 v Clonduff 2-14
Clonduff served up another nail-biting game this week, and came out on top by a single point. They conceded a goal in the first minute but bounced back with some well-taken scores including a point from a 45 by captain Jamie O'Hagan and led at half time 1-9 to 1-4. Clonduff got the first point of the second half but Rostrevor rattled in two quick goals to level the game. The see-sawed right to the end when Clonduff took the lead with a well taken goal to go two points up. Again Rostrevor levelled before Clonduff went two points up and Rostrevor came back for one more - thankfully the final whitle blew! Team: J Carvill, D Fitzpatrick, K Mulholland, R McKernan, J OHagan (0-2), D Downey, S Fitzpatrick, J Keenan, A Markey (2-3),P Wilson (0-2), C Kerr (0-1), T Close (0-2), E Brown (0-4) Subs Conor Fitzpatrick, R Woods, E Lyness Feehan, Cathal Fitzpatrick, D McCluskey Hudson, P Cunningham, E Lively, S Parr

SD U12 FL Div 1 - Mayobridge 4-1 v Clonduff 4-4

Clonduff got their second win of the season in the U12 league when they defeated local rivals Mayobridge. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the game and Mayobridge got off to a quick start but Clonduff came back late in the first half and produced a brilliant second half display of score taking scoring 4-3 - 0-2 from captain Senan Carr, 2-1 from Dan Rafferty and a goal each for Callum Donnan and Shea Morgan. Another great defensive performance from Clonduff held Mayobridge to just two points in the second half and the great work in midfield, and boost from two second half subs came together to produce a well deserved victory for the team. Final Score: Clonduff 4-3 Mayobridge 4-1

LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL

Clonduff Senior Ladies played their first two games of the league in the past week. On Tuesday evening they travelled to St John's the 2015 Junior Championship finalists. They conceded three early goals but rallied to go in level at half time. The home side pulled away in the second half but once again the Yellas rallied but lost the game 5-8 to 3-7.

It was a very different story when they met newcomers Ballykinlar at home on Saturday evening - there were great performances all over the field with players being switched from their regular positions not only to give them the experience but also to protect them from the biting cold wind that assaulted Clonduff Park. The final score was Clonduff 8-13 Ballykinlar 0-1

CLONDUFF GIRLS GET OFF TO FLYING START IN U12 LGFA LEAGUE!
What a great display of skills and determination in the wonderful sunshine in Clonduff Park in their first competitive game of the year! They defeated near neighbours Kilcoo 9-6 to 3-0. All the girls in the big squad who attend regular training got game time and each and every girl played her part - great running off the ball, fabulous tackling, magnificent defending and ability to take scores! No doubt there will be tougher games to come but it's great to get off to a flyer for the first game of the season. It's important to keep the commitment to training going as well as the games themselves.
Erin Rafferty took charge of her first ever game and did a magnificent job - Well done Erin! Erin is one of our young volunteers who have signed up for the GoldMark Award!

U17 LGFA League - Castlewellan v Clonduff

Clonduff U17s secured the win away to Castlewellan on Sunday morning with a great display of team work and fine score taking.

Hurling

DOWN JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE - Clonduff 4-18 v Ballela 2-6
Clonduff hosted last years Down junior champions & Ulster finalists in the first of their Down league games on Monday evening. All be it a much depleted side travelled to face Clonduff this time around.
Clonduff led from start to finish in this match & had opened the scoring inside 3 minutes. The speed in attack was again causing Clonduff's opponents all sorts of problems, a promising trend that has been developing in the opening matches of the year! The highlight of the half came in the form of a long range point, fired over from midfield by Patrick Branagan. Clonduff should have been out of sight by half time, but 2 goals for Ballela shortly before the half gave them a sense of hope going in at half time.
Half time score, Clonduff 2-11 v Ballela 2-3
The second half played out much the same as the opening 25 minutes of the first half, scoring some fine points and converting a further 2 goal chances. The defence ensured there wouldn't be a repeat of the goals late in the first half & held Ballela to just 3 points, with only 1 from play in the second half.
Team & scorers: Niall Quinn, Declan Rooney, Danny Nugent, Christopher Brown, John Murphy, Shane Murray, Darragh Downey, Christopher Young 0-2, Brendan Britton 0-2, Rian Brannagan 1-5 (1-3f), David Quinn 0-1, Paddy Branagan 0-3, Lorcan Branagan 1-2, Fionnbharr Murphy 1-1, Mark Downey 0-2; Subs used: Gerard Coughlin, Liam McParlan 1-0, Conor Tumilty.
Clonduff have amassed a total of 10-56 from their first 3 competitive matches, an impressive tally! However they will be well aware that they will face much tougher opposition as the season progresses.

HANDBALL

CAMOGIE

Busy day for Clonduff Camogs with the U14s participating in Feile over on the Ards, the U12s taking part in Caman to Ulster at Tyrone Centre of Excellence in Garvaghey and Camogs and supporters providing some vocal support to the Down Camogs in Stradone Cavan for the Down minors. Well Done everybody!

Ulster U12 Blitz

Well done to the U12s who took part in the Caman to Ulster blitz on Saturday held at the fantastic Tyrone Centre of Excellence in Garvaghey. There were some great displays of camogie from the 32 teams. Clonduff were in a section with teams from Tyrone, Derry and Antrim and each girl played very well. Many thanks to the support from the parents that travelled, very much appreciated. As with previous years special camogie t-shirts were available to buy which were modelled by Michaella, Grace and Blathnaid. As in previous years you had to enter the provincial blitz to have a chance to play at Caman to Croker... Clonduff Camogs have this chance hopefully we'll be lucky enough and get selected and have the opportunity to play in Croke Park. Well done girls!

Camogie Feile

A depleted Clonduff U14 team travelled to Ballycran for the Camogie Feile - the girls played very well and did themselves, their mentors, parents and club proud.
