Kilcoo Club Notes

May 11, 2015

The annual Eoghain Rua U'10 boys gaelic football tournament took place on Saturday last, with 13 teams from Meath, Derry, Tyrone, Armagh and Down participating.

Kilcoo was placed with Donaghmore, Tullylish, and Naomh Colmcille (Meath) in the group phase. The young Kilcoo team were up against eventual Cup winners Donaghmore and this proved too tough an opening for the boys. The lads then followed this up with a strong performance to finish all square with Tullylish. With the boys improving in each game, they managed to beat their Meath opponents in the last group game by a goal, which put them into the Cup competition. In the Cup quarter-final, the lads put in a strong performance to beat Killeavy on a scoreline of 0-4 to 0-2. Next up was Mayobridge in the semi-final and despite a gallant effort, the boys lost out narrowly against a physically stronger team by 0-3 to 0-1. The final saw the Tyrone outfit, Donaghmore, who played the best football all day, emerge victorious by 3-5 to 1-2.
In the shield competition, Clonduff and Clann Eireann progressed to the final with our neighbours coming out on top on a scoreline of 0-5 to 1-1, after extra time.
A big thank-you to everyone who helped in any way to make the day a huge success, with nothing but compliments from the visiting teams, on a well run day.

The U12 boys remain unbeaten in the East Down league after vctories over Liatroim and a strong Carryduff team. Next up is Castlewellan next Sunday away from home.
