Monan: relegation not an option

Down hurling manager Gerard Monan
Down manager Ger Monan is adamant relegation would be a disaster for them.

The Ulster side face Wicklow in the division 2A relegation play off at Trim, Co Meath on Sunday afternoon after a campaign that saw them yield just one point and that came from a draw against their opponents this weekend.

Monan expressed to Gaelic Life that relegation would be detrimental to the future development of hurling in the county.

"We're bottom of the league for a reason. You can paint it up all you want, but we haven't got the results," said Monan.

"It's vital for Down hurling that we win on Sunday. If we go down to division 3 it will be a real kick in the teeth. We have to win, it will be hard but the ball is in our court."
