Glasdrumman GAC Notes
April 16, 2012
County Seniors.
Commiserations to our County footballers who lost to Cork in the National League semi final last Sunday. We look forward to the championship with renewed optimism when we take on Peter Canavan's Fermanagh on 3rd June.
Well done to the senior team for collecting two more valuable points on Friday night against Saul.
This fixture traditionally is a closely contested match and Friday night was no exception.
Saul looked the more composed of the sides and were pressing our defence at every opportunity picking of points from frees and open play.
Our boys showed their resilience and fought hard to stay in the contest taking their points on offer.
Half time Saul 0-9 to 0-7.
The second half was a tough affair with both teams fully committed in the tackles.
Saul certainly were in the ascendancy and opened a five point cap with time running out. But this Glasdrumman team's never say die attitude prevailed and with two crucial goals from Connaire Harrison secured what for long periods looked like a certain defeat.
Full time score 2-9 to 0-14.
Tom will be back at the helm for Friday night's match at home to Tullylish at 7pm but thanks to Gary McGreevy and his helpers for keeping the ship on course during his absence.
What is Baileghlas? This is the name of the teams where we are partnering with Ballymartin for the 2012 season at U14 and minor.
The U14 team enjoyed a great day out on Easter Monday in Pairc Esler at the Football Feile. Next training Tuesday night at 6.30pm St Colman's Killkeel.
The minor team got off to a flyer with a great win over Ballyholland 1-10 to 0-6. Their next match is away to Warrenpoint on Tuesday night 7pm.
The first of this year's u10 blitzes took place last Saturday at Pairc Esler Newry. With 2 teams unable to make it on the day, it was Glasdrumman who were the opposition for host club Newry Shamrocks. The first match saw Glasdrumman take on Shamrock B. After a slow start we really kicked into gear with some excellent football being played throughout the team. Under 8 players Sean was really catching the eye with some clinical finishing. Shamrocks A proved to be a sterner test in the next game, but with confidence high after the first game, Shamrocks A were finding it hard to contain a Glasdrumman team whose pass and go and link-up play was a joy to watch. The forward line of John, Martin "The Gooch", Sean and Callum "Stick" proved a handful for the shamrocks backs all day. Midfielders, Caelan and the busy Eoin worked hard keeping a supply of ball going into the forward line. The back line of Brogan, Jamie, Cormac and the classy Matt, whose reading of the game and distribution was outstanding and helped Glasdrumman to a well-deserved win. Two players of note for u8 are Cormac and Sean for their performances on the day and who will be pushing hard for first team place on u10's this season. Thanks to Stephen who refereed the game fairly.
U8 and U10 training will take place at St Mary's Park, Quarter Rd Sunday's 11am.
Pictured below Keri Grant and Padraig Stevenson in Croke Park last Wednesday when they represented our club on the hallowed turf. They also enjoyed a tour of the museum and refreshments provided by GAA Hqs.
Congratulations to Collette and the committee for providing a great afternoon dancing, craic and supper at our first ever Set Dancing / Ceili on Easter Monday in the AOH hall. For those who missed out put it in your dairy for next Easter Monday as it is going to be an annual event.
The club also hosted the County's Celebration of the Scor on Tuesday night in the AOH hall. This was another highly entertaining evening with entertainers from all over the county and local.
