Senior Ladies Football

The Senior Ladies began their 2012 campaign with a League fixture in Annaclone where they suffered their first defeat last year, and, in the first ten minutes, on a pitch that was barely playable, the early signs were not good.
Annaclone pointed twice during this period and it could have been much worse for Carryduff but for some careless finishing and some fine stops from Susie Baxter in goal.
Eventually though the Duff girls got to grips with the conditions and after a flowing move, Jessica Foy notched up their first score with a well taken point. This was quickly followed by a goal from the same player and for the rest of the half the Carryduff team were dominant producing some fabulous flowing football. The half-forward line of Erin Robinson, Alannah Connery and Lee Anne Murray were instrumental. Kate McKay added a second goal quickly followed by a third from sister Emer who was outstanding throughout at centre-half back.
Hazel Jordan then scored her first competitive goal in Down football before Laura Sharvin, all the way up from full-back, added another point. Emer McKay added a further two goals to bring her personal tally to three leaving the half time score at Annaclone 0-2, Carryduff 6-2.

To their credit Annaclone tried hard to raise their game in the second half whilst Carryduff were happy to protect their lead and this made for a much more even contest and a challenge to Carryduff backs Emily Duffy, Carly Fay, Ciara Doherty and Ciara Rooney. The early onslaught was repelled and with Megan Doherty and Niamh Molloy working hard in midfield, Carryduff again managed to get on top.
Hazel Jordan recorded the first score of the half with a point, and this was followed by two more from Jessica Foy and Kate McKay before Hazel again found the net.
At this stage Annaclone added their third point and were to record a further 2-2 before the end of the game whilst Carryduff added another 1-2; a third goal from Hazel and two more points from Kate and Jess.
Final score, Annaclone 2-5, Carryduff 8-7.

Carryduff v Bryansford
Carryduff Ladies got off to a very slow start and an excellent save by goalkeeper Susie Baxter kept them in touch as Bryansford notched up three points from play in the opening twelve minutes. Bryansford should have had more to show for their efforts with the strong breeze to their backs but kicked three wides in this period. Hazel Jordan's 13th minute goal brought he sides level but Bryansford replied with three fine scores from play before Jessica Foy's 19th minute point deuced the deficit to two points. In a very lacklustre first half, Carryduff were only to mount one further challenge which saw Megan Doherty kick wide. Bryansford finished the half strongly with two further points and a well finished goal from their industrious right full forward to leave them with a commanding six point advantage at the break
Carryduff 1 -01 Bryansford 1 -07.

Alec McGoran shepherded his charges into the changing room at half time and there must have been some straight talking as it was a more purposeful and determined Carryduff that took the field for the second half. Despite Bryansford opening the half welland claiming the first score froma converted free in the 2nd minute, it was the only score they were to register in the half.
Carryduff settled to take control and scores from five different players was indicative of their second half dominance. Erin Robinson's 37th minute point marked the start of the Carryduff revival and additional points from Jessica Foy (44th), Kate McKay (46th) and Emer McKay (47th) before Robinson struck her 40th minute point took Carryduff's deficit to two points. Jessica Foys 51st minute goal put carryduff two to the better and further points from Erin Robinson (53rd) and from Ciara Doherty (54th) sealed the victory for Carryduff on a final scoreline of
Carryduff 2 -08 Bryansford 1 -08.

The Carryduff team was;- Susie Baxter, Carly Fay, Laura Sharvin, Ciara Doherty, Hannah Magorrian, Emer McKay, Ciara Rooney, Kate McKay, Megan Doherty, Emily Duffy, Leeanne Murray, Alannah Connery, Erin Robinson, Hazel Jordan, Jessica Foy.

Junior Ladies

The Junior Ladies began their League campaign with a win against Annaclone on Thursday night at Boucher Road. In a competitive game the Ladies showed some great moments of free flowing football which augers well for the future and they improved throughout the game. Annaclone were first to score with a point as Carryduff took time to settle. However, the defence of Catriona Hynes, Donnla Fisher and Clare McGoran were hard to break down and eventually Carryduff began to take control of the game. Julie Coulter equalised with a point and Áine Kerr soon added a second. Fiona McCauley made it three with a marvellous point, picking the ball up in her own half and forging forward before converting. Julie Coulter then found the net after latching onto a great cross field ball from Áine Kerr and this was quickly followed by another point from the hard working Katie Magorrian. Annaclone, to their credit scored two points of their own, but the half ended with two further points from Carryduff via Áine Kerr and Katie Magorrian. Half time score: Carryduff 1 - 6, Annaclone 0 - 3.

In the second half, whilst Annaclone tried very hard to get back into the game, Carryduff were always on top. The half back line of Aimee Lavery, Megan Connery and Emily Hewitt was solid and progressive in terms of supporting the attack, whilst the midfield of Amy Cunningham and Orla McKay along with Siobhan Cunningham at half forward kept the ball moving throughout. Even when Annaclone did break through they came across an in form Sian Clifford in goal who made a number of good saves.
Annaclone were only to score one more point whilst Carryduff added a further 1 - 4 through Áine Kerr (1 - 3) and Julie Coulter. Management will be pleased with this start, and with the performances of Sinead Early, Tara McGrath, Katie Cunningham and Clare McGinnity who all made their debuts at this level.
Final score : Carryduff 2 - 10, Annaclone 0 - 4.

Football League Division 1
Carryduff v Bryansford
Despite having the advantage of a strong first half breeze Carryduff failed to capitalise on the advantage it offered and allowed Bryansford to peg off a few points from play in the opening minutes of the game that were to prove crucial to Bryansford's morale. A fine save from Quinn kept Carryduff ahead, his save deflecting over the crossbar for Bryansford's second point. Getting a steady supply of ball Ciaran Conway managed to kick five points in the first quarter but the home side seemed to live on their luck as Bryansford continued to win most of the breaking ball around the midfield sector and, despite trailing by three points seemed more purposeful in their approach to the game A 15th minute point brought them within two of Carryduff before McConville pointed to put three between the sides. That advantage disappeared when Bryansford goaled in the 17th minute. A further point from play and a second goal from the penalty spot in the 26th minute left them with a three point advantage at the break, Carryduff 0 -06 Bryansford 2 -03.

Having shifted a heavy knock at the end of the first half, McConville was replaced by
Playing the second half with the strong breeze to their backs, Bryansford extended their advantage by converting two frees in the first ten minutes. Ciaran Conway's 40th minute goal brought some hope to the Carryduff cause, leaving only two points between the sides. However, playing the long direct all with the assistance of the breeze, Bryansford soon added a further three points without reply and a third goal seven minutes from the final whistle gave them a comfortable seven point advantage. Bryansford claimed a further converted free and point from play. Luke Magowan's late point left the final scoreline Carryduff 1-07 Bryansford 3 -10

The Carryduff team was;- Stephen Quinn, Ciaran Goodwin, Paddy Craig, Shane Flaherty, Aodhan McGoran, Gavin Kelly, Mark McConville, Peter Lavery, Conor McCarroll, Luke Magowan, Ciaran Conway, Michael McGrath, Kieran Devlin, Tony McMahon, Rory McGrath.
Substitutes;- Seán McGonigle (for McConville, 30), Conor Beatty (for Devlin, 40), Thomas Artherton

ACMFL Carryduff v Castlewellan Tuesday 10th April 2012

Carryduff will certainly rue a lack of hunger and composure on the ball and the ten wides they kicked in the first half in a lacklustre game in which neither side settled to display the football both are capable of. At the break, Carryduff had a single point to show for their thirty minutes endeavour. Castlewellan had not really fared much better, the difference between the teams being an opportunistic goal finished to the Carryduff net. Despite raising their efforts and pressing forward Carryduff missed a number of opportunities and whilst holding Castlewellan to Martin Brannigan's single point from play, the Carryduff forwards squandered a further six scoring opportunities, collecting only that solitary point, a conversion by McGoran in the 24th minute of play. The loss of influential midfielder McKeever was to have a significant impact on the remainder of the half and indeed the second half
The half-time score was an accurate reflection of a poor first half;-
Carryduff 0- 01 Castlewellan 1- 01.

Castlewellan opened the second half brightly with a point from midfielder Burns within two minutes. Ryan McKee added one for Carryduff five minutes into the half before Crilly converted for the visitors in the 37th minute. With Castlewellan three to the better at this stage of proceedings, the Carryduff revival began. Unfortunately for Carryduff, their 38th minute goal was disallowed as a "square ball". Thereafter three Carryduff points - two converted frees from McGoran, the second arguably the score of the game (42nd and 48th) and a 43rd minute point from McGonigle - put Carryduff back into contention.
Two further wides however dampened morale. Castlewellan marshalled the threat that McGonigle had been posing and strode into the ascendancy with points from Crilly (19th) and two from Martin Brannigan ( 52nd and 53rd) to put Castlewellan three clear.
James Lawlor's 60th minute point was the last score of a dull game to bring Carryduff within three points on a final score line of Carryduff 0- 06 Castlewellan 1- 06

The Carryduff team was;- Paddy Rice, Seamus McCann, Jack Ferrin, Michael McGrath, Joe Sweeney (capt.), Conor McFlynn, Ciaran Goodwin, Donal McKeever, Ryan McKee, James Lawlor, Johnny Murray, Seán McGonigle, Niall McGoran, Peter Lavery, Luke Magowan.
Substitutes;- Rory McDonnell (for Murray 14th ), Conor Curran ( for McKeever 21st ), Ryan Murray (for McCann 42nd), James Guinness (for Ferrin 50th)

Best wishes to Donal McKeever who had to leave the field of play as a consequence of a mouth injury.

The Castlewellan team was;- Gerard Keown, Seán Fitzsimons, Stephen Connolly, Pauric Óg Hardy, Seán Dornan, Connall Corrigan, Rossa McCartan, Patrick Gallagher, Rory Burns, Martin Brannigan, Connall Crilly, Matthew Stratton, Seán Hardy, Cahal Keown, Malachy Rooney, Seán O'Boyle, Tiarnan Hardy, Aidan Doherty, Neil McAleenean, Ciaran Clelland, Conan Brogan

Referee;- Kieran McMahon (Teconnaught)

East Down 'A' Under-14 League Wednesday 11th April 2012
Carryduff v Castlewellan

Carryduff proved just too strong for Castlewellan in their opening fixture of the East Down 'A' Under-14 League played in bright but cold conditions at Páirc Aodha Dhuibh on Wednesday night.
The home side got off to the best of starts with a goal and six points within ten minutes. The blitz on the Castlewellan goal when Carryduff slotted in five goals in four minutes ended the game as a contest. Despite continued Carryduff pressure and the advantage of the second half breeze, Castlewellan, very positively encouraged by their management and mentors continued to contest the game. Carryduff however proved just too strong and three further goals and twelve ponts were added across the 30 minutes of play.
