Aidan Carr aims to re-establish himself in the Down starting XV.

The Clonduff playmaker has struggled to nail down a berth in the Mourne County team thus far under James McCartan but he impressed during the McKenna Cup and is determined to kick on:

"You train to play and it is not nice whenever you are not playing," he says in the Irish News. "But I'm still here. I hung in.

"With the players that we had in the half-forward line last year, they were no softies. Marty Clarke and those boys - it was tough to get in.

"People who are coming in want to cement their place in the squad. People like me, who have been around the team, can see that there are places up for grabs as some boys are no longer here this year.

"The chance is there to stake a claim for a place."
