Former Down All-Ireland winner Greg Blayney has been appointed manager of Antrim side St Brigid's.

Blayney was an instrumental part of the Down side that won All-Ireland titles in 1991 and 1994 and is revered as one of the best forwards of his generation.

The former All Star has been member of the St Brigid's club for many years, having played with his native club Carryduff and he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"The club approached me a couple of weeks ago to take over and I was happy to do so," Blayney told the Belfast Media Group. "At this stage it is early days and I will need a bit of time to really get to know the players.

"I would be in a better position to assess the strengths and weaknesses after a couple of months then. The league doesn't start until April so that gives us a bit of time to prepare for it."
