McCartan left scratching his head

Down manager James McCartan
James McCartan was at a loss to explain the one-sided nature of Down's victory over Monaghan in the McKenna Cup.

"We don't know what to make of that," the Mourne County boss said of his 4-12 to 0-11 win in Clones.

"We don't know how well we played because it was not a contest for a lot of it. There were times when you thought that our fellas were world beaters and we haven't got 10 newcomers who are all world beaters. It has left us with a bit of head-scratching to do.

"Whether we are putting out more experienced teams than the opposition, I don't know, but it would be a very easy to fall into a trap and start thinking that we are something we are not."
