Ballyholland too strong in Glasdrumman
June 29, 2009
Glasdrumman 1-7
Ballyholland 3-11
Ballyholland visited the Quarter Road on Friday evening with Glasdrumman looking to get back to something like their form earlier in the season. However, with both teams taking to the field without some of their regular first team players, recent form did not mean much.
After a scrappy first ten minutes, during which there were no scores, it was Glasdrumman's Raymond Magorrian who opened accounts with a well taken point on eleven minutes. The score sparked Ballyholland into a higher gear and four points in the next six minutes, including three from Ronan Murtagh, was an emphatic reply. Two points from Connaire Harrison edged Glasdrumman to within a point with ten minutes to half time and still all to play for. Within two minutes however Ballyholland had the ball in the back of the Glasdrumman net to increase their lead again. Cormac Murphy replied with his first point of the evening, only for Ballyholland to really stamp their authority on the game with a further two point and a second goal in the final minutes of the half. Raymond Magorrian added his second point of the game seconds before the half time whistle to leave the scores at half time Glasdrumman 0-5 Ballyholland 2-6.
The second half started similar to the first with only two scores between the teams, one point apiece, Cormac Murphy scoring for Glasdrumman, in the first fifteen minutes. Ballyholland were still within range at this stage as both teams stumbled through the second half, with Ballyholland scoring again and a quick reply from the foot of Christopher Cassidy it looked as though Glasdrumman had a chance of pulling something out of this game. Not to be, as Ballyholland sparked to life again with three points and a third goal in a six minute blitz to close the game out. Glasdrumman did have some consolation with a well taken goal from Paul Grant in added time to leave the final score Glasdrumman 1-7 Ballyholland 3-11.
