U14 Camogie v Ballygalget
Ballygalget tavelled to Dunavil for an U14 camogie challenge and proved that bit too strong for An Riocht. Thanks to the Ards girls for the game.
Senior Camogie v Ballyholland
An Riocht lost to Ballyholland in Division Two by seven points 2-9 to 3-13. Over the hour Harps were the better team but not seven points better. Both keepers were in outstanding form and the game was tied at two frees apiece before Emma Jayne Magee struck for a close range goal. Ten minutes later in the twentieth minute Harps were level with two points from play and a converted free. A long range Naoimh Mulhern goal put An Riocht back in front but a like score for the visitors tied the match again. Laura Brennan replied but Harps hit back to tie things at the break, 1-6 apiece.
On the restart Ballyholland struck 2-1 before two points from Sophie Colgan got An Riocht going again. Twice the keeper came to Ballyhollands assistance and once the ball cannoned back off the post as An Riocht perhaps tried for goals too early in the half. Balyholland having survived the scare took control for a time and stretched their tally to 3-12 while An Riocht were left with just two Sophie Colgan frees making it 2-7 to 3-12. Suddenly An Riocht injected some urgency into their play, Maoimh Mulhern fired over two points, one just skimming the bar but again Harps defended well and a few other An Riocht chances came to nothing before referee Frank McDonald brought proceedings to a close.
U10 Football v Glasdrumman
The U10 footballers visited Glasdrumman last Monday and came away with a win after two cracking games of football. Ryan Prichard, Lauren Clarke and Cristian Doyle were outstanding for An Riocht.
U12 Tournament
The Brian O'Hare Cup and Shield took place at Dunavil on Saturday. After 38 games played between 16 teams over four hours of non stop action Carryduff beat Rostrevor 3-5 to 2-4 in the Cup final and An Riocht beat Downpatick 3-9 to 1-7 in the Shield final. A collection was held for the Special Olympics Ireland Changing Lives campaign. Thanks to all the participating teams for their co-operation throughout the tournament and all those who helped in any way to make the day a success.
U12 Football v Warrenpoint
Warrenpoint proved too strong for An Riocht U12 footballers at Milltown playing fields on Sunday wining 3-8 to 1-4. An Riocht managed only a single point in the first half but played much better after the break adding 1-3. Team T Sloan, M Harper, R Matthews, S Cunningham, J Rafferty, A Harper, C Small, A Sloan, D Morgan 1-0, S Flood 0-1, R White, L Rodgers 0-1, A Eastwood, D Campbell 0-1, M Rooney 0-1. Subs C Morgan, D Hardy, B Rooney.
U14 Football v Mitchels
The U14 footballers lost in Mitchels even though Michael O'Rourke scored 3-4.
U16 Football v Ballymartin
In Ballymartin on Sunday morning An Riocht U16 footballers had five points to spare over the home side.
U18 Football v Drumgath
The minor footballers lost in Drumgath.
Thirds Football v Rostrevor
The Thirds footballers lost in Rostrevor.
Senior Football v Carryduff
An Riocht took a long time to come to terms with Carryduff's basketball type play. Keeping only one man in the home half of the field the city side smothered the An Riocht attack by sheer weight of numbers and broke at a leisurely pace keeping possession and drawing fouls. Eighteen minutes had passed before there was a score and by the thirtieth minute Carryduff led four nil. Paddy Cole finally raised a cheer from the home support with a point in added time. Positional and personnel changes did the trick for An Riocht on the restart and with some fine long range points picked off, the visitors were forced to come out and make a game of it and that left gaps at the back. On forty four minutes John Clarke capitalized when he shrugged off his markers and shot low to the net. An Riocht went on to win by 1-7 to 0-6. Team B McVeigh, M Trainor, M Rodgers, C Doyle, J McVeigh, D O'Reilly, P Sherry, J Cunningham 0-1, P Murney, A Cunningham, R Annett 0-1, P Cole 0-2, D White, J McBurney, J Clarke 1-1. Subs L Harper 0-2, N McArdle, C Sloan, L Fitzpatrick, C McVeigh.
