This Weeks Activities: An Riocht * Down GAA Yearbook "A Review of 2008", a few still available from the Club. * Bingo at Dunavil on Sunday from 8pm. * Cards -45- at Dunavil on Thursdays. * There is a football meeting on Monday 12th January to finalise team mentor positions etc. Everyone willing to give a hand should attend. * The U20 footballers still do not know who they play in the county final which probably won't take place until the start of February! * Defibrillator training will take place on Thursday 22nd January. It would be best if there was a cross section of managers from football and camogie teams, administrators and supporters. Places will be limited so it is important names are given in as soon as possible. Also this will serve as a refresher course for those who completed the first defibrillator training in November 2007. * Lotto draw on Monday at 9pm. * Indoor hurling starts Thursday 15th January at 7.30pm. * The coaching courses for camogie and football will be coming up this month. In camogie there will be two ninety minute sessions entitled 'lets get started' and 'coaching the tackle' followed by the new foundation course 'Caman, get a grip'. In football there is a new course, the foundation course has changed and once completed the coach will follow one of three paths to the next qualification relevant to him/her (a) U12 down, or (b) aged 12 to 18, or (c) adult. All three paths can then be progressed from Level One to Level Four. * Scor Sinsir starts February and its important that everyone aged 16+ interested in participating comes forward as soon as possible. * Well done to all those who participated in the Camogie Celebrity Bainisteoir on Sunday. Anyone interested should see Jim Allen or Tom Cunningham as soon as possible. * Thanks to those who supported the holiday disco on Sunday. KYC * There is a meeting on Wednesday 7th January for the youth club Senior Members committee. Anyone aged 13+ and wanting a say on what activities will take place between now and Easter should attend. There are no other youth club activities on Wednesday. * On Thursday 8th at 8pm there is a meeting at Dunavil re the youth musical project. Anyone interested in taking part or helping in any way is asked to attend, all ideas and experience very welcome. Come along to find out more. * Sixteen five-a-side teams took part in two indoor football tournaments at Dunavil over the holidays. The senior fives winners were Conor Sloan, Michael McKibben, Patrick Cole, Michael Ireland and Ruairi Doran. * Caolan Cambell won the holiday pool competition at Dunavil. Events get underway with a 'Table Quiz' the last week of January followed by 'Team Challenge' the week beginning 9th February and the 'Y Factor' heats on 20th February with the final on Saturday 14th March. The quiz is for those aged 10 to 13 and the questions are on music, sport, movies and general knowledge. The team challenge is for aged 14 to 18 and designed to test teamwork skills and problem solving in a logical way. The Y Factor is for musicians, singers, dancers, magicians, martial arts displays etc. It is a showcase for any and all talents the young person may have and is divided into two categories of primary and post primary school age. * Those that put their names forward are reminded of the 'Keeping Safe' free child protection training on Mondays 12, 19 & 26 January. * SELB Youth Service 'Senior Member Training' starts on Monday 19th January, names have been submitted. This is for young people aged 14+ with leadership potential, it encourages the development of new skills and knowledge & instills confidence. Content includes communication, decision making, relationships, presentation skills and group work, includes some of art, drama, self awareness, leadership, drug & alcohol awareness. * Archery classes start on Monday 12 January at Dunavil. * Food hygiene and preparation courses and the DELTA babysitting programme will be taking place from February. * REC (Rescue Emergency Care) First Aid course on Saturday 17 January for those giving immediate but temporary care including basic principles, vital signs, accident procedures, CPR, first aid kits. * Clothing Collection. Can you spare your old, unwanted all types of clothing, paired shoes, all household textiles, bed linens, curtains, towels, etc. Every bag collected results in a donation to the Clubs Youth section. Please help raise funds for your local club & help developing communities abroad. Please leave bags at 10 Dunavil Road.
