Down manager Eamonn Burns is on the look-out for a new full-back as Gerard McGovern has opted of inter-county football for the year.

The Burren clubman featured in the Allianz FL Division 2 round 1 victory over Louth but has left the Mourne County's squad since.

"Gerard has left the panel," the Mourne County boss informed The Irish News.

"He is planning to go traveling, he has work commitments and he was finding it hard to make training so he has decided to pull out.

"It's very disappointing from our perspective but I think he is planning to travel to America and then on to Australia.

"We don't have the players contract, it's not a professional game although they are amateur players in a professional set-up."
