An Riocht / Kingdom

Portaferry Men's Shed visited Dunavil on Wednesday to look around the Kingdom Men's Shed facilities and enjoyed a talk on the aerodrome and the US Airforce by Joe Boden. Thanks to Joe, and to Billy the chef who served up the hot food and all his helpers who left the place spotless.

Later, on Wednesday the Ladies of Mourne held a Christmas Wreath making workshop with Rockmount Crafts.

Congratulations to An Riocht's Diarmuid Cahill, the new Down GAA County Treasurer elected at GAA County Convention on Wednesday past; Sean O'Rourke represented the Club at convention.

The Kingdom Walkers enjoyed a Christmas night out on the town on Thursday.

Kingdom Youth Club will hold a Volunteer Recruitment night on Wednesday 10th January, more details later.

Down GAA Draw tickets are on sale, this is An Riocht's main fundraiser so please support, its only £2.50 a week which is not beyond anyone's means; this year over £6,400 was won by An Riocht ticket holders.

Are you currently unemployed? Are you aged between 16-24? Interested in a free 12-week course that includes 3-days of Outdoor Pursuits? Interested in getting a qualification to help get a job or boost your confidence?

The Prince's Trust Personal Development Programme is a 12-week course helping to increase transferable skills including communication, working with others, problem solving, teamwork, tolerance and leadership as well as many other skills that will make you a good candidate for potential employers. The next Team start date is Monday 8th January, for further information on 'The Prince's Trust Team Programme' at Southern Regional College Newry East Campus contact: Colleen McCreesh, Team Leader, on 07809756569 or email [email protected]

The Camogie Engage-HER recruitment and retention project continued on Monday past; thanks to our Sported volunteer Jill who travelled all the way from Belfast to facilitate this session. Those who participated more than made up for their lack of numbers with their enthusiasm as they delved into how we currently work with women and girls in the club, identified actions to help us improve this work and create positive experiences for girls and young women in our game. However, such a small core group cannot possibly sustain the huge effort required for camogie to prosper and the general lack of interest in putting Camogie Development on a professional footing does not bode well going forward. The next Engage-HER workshop, number 3 of 5 in total, takes place in January.
