Michael Murphy has backed Rory Gallagher's request for a four-year extension as Donegal football manager.
A decision on the Fermanagh man's future will be taken at a full county board meeting on Monday night.
"I think there is a need for a more developmental approach over the next two, three to four years," the Donegal captain told the Donegal Democrat.
"This is to give a lot of the lads that have come through county minor teams and have come through successful county U21 teams a steady and constant environment to develop and improve themselves and to improve us a county."
Murphy is convinced Gallagher is the man to develop and nurture Donegal's emerging stars.
"I think it is vital that Rory, with the familiarity that he brings and the knowledge he brings having worked with them at U21, it will be only a positive if he continues in the job."
