Paddy McBrearty is expected to make a quick recovery from the rib injury he sustained in Saturday night's International Rules Test.

The Kilcar and Donegal star collided with the padded post at Croke Park as he palmed the ball into the net in the second quarter. But instead of allowing the goal to stand, referee Joe McQuillan awarded a penalty for pushing that was converted by Conor McManus.

McBrearty was immediately substituted and taken to hospital for a scan before being released later that night.

"Paddy played very well for the relatively short period he was on and he set up quite a lot of scores," Donegal PRO Ed Byrne told the Irish News.

"He was basically shoved into the posts by the Aussies and he then fell on the ground fairly heavily. He was taken to the Mater Hospital later with suspected damaged ribs. The injury was bruising to the abdominal and rib area. He was later released and should be back in action as quickly as possible.

"Paddy is a strong, robust guy and I believe the padded goalpost was fairly shaken also."
