Patton glad to be back

September 04, 2015

Aodh Ruadh forward Philip Patton scored 0-10 in his side's victory over Naomh Conaill in the Southern Board Minor Football final earlier this week, but there's more to do this story than just his scoring feat.

A few months back, it was feared that the youngster may never play football again after he suffered chest pains in a minor championship at the end of June.

The county minor panellist was rushed to hospital where it was found that the muscles in his heart had swollen and he was having great difficulty in breathing.

Speaking to the Donegal Democrat he picks up the story: "It was just like I was getting a big hug and was squeezed in. I could just not get my breath properly and could not get anything going and it just got worse and worse.

"There was a wee bit in the middle that I can't remember but I got good treatment in Letterkenny Hospital.

He added: It was just swollen muscles in the heart, something very rare but it was probably the best possible outcome. I was thinking it could have been a collapsed lung or something."

Philip is now looking forward to a county senior football semi-final as Aodh Ruadh take on St Eunan's for a place in the decider.
