Retiring Donegal footballer Rory Kavanagh admits that he enjoyed every minute of his inter-county career.

Kavanagh announced his retirement earlier this week and unsurprisingly, he pointed to the time under the managership of Jim McGuinness as the best period.

Having made his debut in 2001, Kavanagh went on to win one All-Ireland title, three Ulster championships and a National League medal.

However, he cited work and family as the reasons for his decision to retire at the age of 32, although he will continue to line out for his club St Eunan's.

"Between family and work I don't feel as though I can give it a full commitment and I'm not someone who would want to take things on half-heartedly," Kavanagh told the Donegal Democrat.

He added: "I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of it. The four years under Jim were just an amazing journey and gave us all memories that we will never ever forget. At one stage a few years before that you'd never have thought there was an All-Ireland in us."
