Michael Murphy has laughed off suggestions that he and Jim McGuinness had an official involvement in Europe's Ryder Cup success last month.

Just days after Donegal's All-Ireland final defeat to Kerry, the duo popped up on our TV screens again inside the ropes at Gleneagles as Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia teed off.

"We were there as spectators and then we got an opportunity to get in under the rope to watch Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia on the first day, and to be up the fairway to watch them was fantastic," the Donegal captain is quoted as saying in the Irish Daily Star.

"To see the way they can shape the ball and draw the ball and perform at the highest level. They're phenomenal at what they do. Paul McGinley has strong Donegal connections with his mother and father being from the county and his father Mick would be a massive Donegal supporter.

"He would have come to a lot of the games and I would have got to meet him and play a bit of golf with him in the last number of years. I got to play a round with Paul at the beginning of the year when he was in Donegal, and it came from there.

"It was good to get out of the county at that stage for a little bit and what better way than to get over to another sporting event and enjoy it."
