Martin McHugh won't be allowing his name to go forward for the vacant Donegal manager's post.

The Kilcar man, whose sons Mark and Ryan have been stars of the Donegal team in recent seasons, has been linked to the role since Jim McGuinness stepped down last Friday, but the 1992 All-Ireland winner says he wouldn't be able to devote the time to the job.

McHugh, who managed Cavan to their first Ulster SFC title in 28 years in 1997, recently resumed his role as manager of the Sligo IT team - 12 years after he won the Sigerson Cup with the college.

"I think what happened was that I took the Sligo IT manager's job and people were putting two and two together, and getting five," he told the Irish Daily Star.

"The way inter-county football has gone, it's almost impossible for managers. The amount of time you have to dedicate is staggering. I just wouldn't be able to make that kind of commitment."
